“When I first started I had a bunch of trouble just finding ideas and inspiration and I usually just copied people's work like fully. I would literally just look at someone’s project I'd be like “Oh what are they doing you know I want to copy them.” Because back then I didn't really have a sense of creativity, but over the years after I got more independent and built as a person and grew, I learned to be on my own and figure out my own ways to solve my own problems, the creativity, what to do, the projects. I started asking a lot more questions and over the years when I first started I would have dents in my clay, holes, bubbles, and now my projects are all smooth, clear, more detailed, more realistic looking, and overall way better when I first started. I didn't really expect to go into AP because I didn't know there was AP class, I thought it was just Ceramics 4. I've been doing Ceramics for 4 years since my high school career, and overall I really just love it and each year I get more experience and I really learn more and more after each project and after each year. I really joined back this year because I want to express myself as much as I can, and I want to at least be in the art show at the end of the year. So last year my junior year I made a project called “The Sweetest Boy,” and basically what “The Sweetest Boy,” is it’s just a big sour patch kid, and I won award for it too it was best in my division in the art show, which makes me really happy to have that in my room. Then I made another one I forgot the name but it's a concha, a sugar cookie and a toast with some butter on it.That project really made me realize that Ceramics is really more than just wheel throwing, because I'm more of a wheel throwing person, but that project really showed me what my hands can do with clay and then another project I did was a carving project on a vase, and that also taught me that my carving skills are really good so those three projects showed how different my techniques got and how used to I got with my projects.” - Damian Plascencia
